"To master the art of training a horse, one must first seek to understand the horse, learn the language of the horse, speak to the horse, and then dance with the horse, and so you shall become one with the horse"
-Megan Kenney
....this is achieved by understanding equine behavior as they speak predominantly in body whereas we rely on the tongue...Horses are creatures of conditioning, reinforcement (whether bad or good) works hand in hand with their instincts as a prey species, and there is NO such thing as a bad horse, they are only mere products of environment and when we interfere as their environment, they become a product, a reflection of sorts, of us as trainers and our methods however infallible they may be....
Megan has been working with horses from an early age, using equine behaviorist philosophies and implementing natural horsemanship methods that can be used in all disciplines as well as training equitation and body mechanics to the rider. We believe that not only is a well trained horse a calm and confident partner, but that versatility is also key for a more experienced and valuable equine. For the same reason that someone's intelligence and ability does not reflect on the clothes they wear, a western or english saddle is all the same on a well trained horse.
Its never too early or too late for a horse to start the learning process. Its especially important to teach a horse HOW to learn. Every horse is different and requires different methods and intensities in the learning process, but the key is to teach them to absorb and learn information in a calm and confident manner as we establish with them that humans can be their trusted leader. And equally we work with their human counterparts, teaching them calm and confidence building training methods that will establish a trusting bond with their equine partner. This is done here at our ranch with a lot of patience, care, affection, and consistency, working at the horses pace. Rushing a horse or pushing them too soon can make them bitter and sour from lack of trust and confidence. Here, we strive for a calm and confident equine and a happy, safe and fun partnership betweeen horse and human.
